October 13, 2023Divya Warier is a renowned name in the world of Mohiniyattam, a classical dance form from the South of India. She is not just an acclaimed dancer, but also a passionate social activist. With her deep-rooted passion and love for dance, Divya has managed to carve a niche for herself as a performing Mohiniyattam Soloist performer.
Divya’s performances are not just mere dance recitals, they are a perfect amalgamation of energy, expression, and thought. Her deep understanding of the art form enables her to bring out the intricacies in tough rhythmic patterns and understand the nuances of Abhinaya, a critical aspect of Indian classical dance dedicated to the art of expression. Her performances have been lauded by the press and rasikas (connoisseurs of the art form), especially for being thoughtful, energetic, and expressive.
Apart from her performances, Divya is also known for her efforts to promote Mohiniyattam as an art form across various platforms. She has been consistently working towards creating a unique position to showcase Mohiniyattam at unique avenues. Her commendable contributions to the art form have earned her accolades and the blessings of her Gurus and elders.
Notable Performances as a Professional Artist
Divya’s journey as a professional artist has been marked by numerous notable performances. One of her most distinguished performances was at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) – The Cube, Mumbai in 2023. That same year, she also performed at the 33rd Raindrops festival organized by the SamVed Society in Mumbai, and at the famous Kalaghoda festival.
Her performance at the Khajuraho Dance Festival 2023 and the Mulam festival, a national seminar and dance festival supported by the Ministry of Culture in Mysore, were also widely appreciated. Divya further graced the stage at the Kinkini Dance Festival organized by Dr. Sandhya Purecha, and at the prestigious Soorya Festival in Thiruvananthapuram in 2024.
In 2022, Divya performed at the Sougandhika Mohiniyattam Kutcheri in Mumbai, the Saabras at IGNCA, Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav in Baroda, and at the Experimental Theatre, NCPA, Pratiroop. She also performed at the Padmini Festival in Mumbai, and the Bharat Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram in 2021.
Divya’s international performances include the Miami Counsel for Arts in Miami, and the Scottsdale Dance & Arts Festival in Arizona, USA. She has also performed at the Sur Sringar Samsad in Mumbai, the Nehru Center in Mumbai, and the International Conference at IIT Mumbai, and the Brahan Natyanjali- Thanjavur Natyanjali.
